Since we can't walk past a batik shop without having a bit of a look, we have collected a lot of batiks over the years. Everything from gorgeously detailed floral masterpieces from the north coast batik centres of Java - Pekalongan, Kudus, Lasem, Cirebon, Rembang - to the more traditional batiks from centres like Yogyakarta, Solo City and Kediri. We have them all!!
We have some sarongs, but most of our batiks are traditional "Kains" - the Indonesian word for a long piece of material that is 2 metres or more long and about 1 metre wide and used to wrap around you however you want to tie it.
These batiks are, mostly, handmade, many of them are old, all of them are beautiful. For information on how they are made, the patterns, how to tie a Kain and more, please see this page About Batik.
