The Akha are an indigenous hill tribe who live in small villages at higher elevations in the mountains of Thailand, Burma, Laos, and Yunnan Province in China. Akha women are known for their embroidery skills which are usually used to decorate their traditional clothes which are typically worn for special ceremonies. They also attach pressed metal, silver adornments, beading and use rich colours. The symbols are drawn from their surroundings and their beliefs.
