Description

A damaged old Batik from Garut in Indonesia in the parang or broken knife motif, made by hand with a Cap or Stem, an intricate large copper stamp used to repeatedly apply wax to the cloth. It is not made by mechanically printing onto the cotton.

From Solo in Central Java, this one has a white/cream background with dark blue and brown. It is in average condition (three or four holes and tears) on good soft cotton with all natural dyes.

A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 107cm high by 240cm long.

A beautiful example of Indonesian batik.
