A damaged old Batik from Garut in Indonesia in the parang or broken
knife motif, made by hand with a Cap or Stem, an intricate large copper
stamp used to repeatedly apply wax to the cloth. It is not made by
mechanically printing onto the cotton.
From Solo in Central
Java, this one has a white/cream background with dark blue and brown. It
is in average condition (three or four holes and tears) on good soft
cotton with all natural dyes.
A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 107cm high by 240cm long.
