A gorgeous fully hand made Batik from Java of natural dyes.
the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by
"kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp
or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional
and most labour intensive way of making a batik.
This one is a
nice old soft cotton with a very dark blue (almost black) background and a good brown and white bird and floral motif. In very good condition but with one T shaped tear of about 4-5cm - see photos.
A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 105cm high by 236cm long.
