Description

A beautiful, old, hand made Batik from Pekalongan in Central Java. Tuli is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.

Pekalongan is a famous batik centre on the north coast of Java where the Chinese first introduced synthetic dyes and floral motifs.  This batik has an olive greenish blue background with a floral and birds design in black, light beige, red and brown. It is a striking looking batik in very good condition on good soft cotton.

A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 107cm high by 240cm long.

A superb example of Indonesian batik.
