A beautiful, old, hand made Batik from Pekalongan. Tuli is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.

Pekalongan is a famous batik centre on the north coast of Java where the Chinese first introduced synthetic dyes and floral motifs. This batik has a beige background with a floral pattern in scarlet, pale blue, green and white. It is in very good condition on soft cotton.

A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 104cm high by 188cm long.

A superb example of Indonesian batik.
